Today is National Toast Day, like you didn't have it circled on your fake holiday calendar. Canadians consume approximately 1.4 billion kilograms of #Bread<\/span><\/a> annually which sounds like a lot until you compare us with Turkey where per capita consumption is almost 200 kilos annually. Bread consumption in Canada was down slightly in 2025, attributed to higher prices due to tariffs. But home baking and shopping at local bakeries all increased. Healthier bread options also increased their market share as customers opted for high-fibre ingredients and foods enriched with prebiotics, probiotics, postbiotics... and a bunch-of-other-otics. It may be good news that there are plenty of gut-friendly options available in the shape of whole grain and rich-in-fibre bakery products, but IMO a lot of them taste like cardboard. I said it... not sorry...<\/p>
