Labour’s Andy Burnham, the popular mayor of Greater Manchester, won a special election for a seat in Parliament and signaled Friday that he will use it to challenge embattled Prime Minister Keir Starmer for leadership of the country.

Peggy Flanagan,
the progressive lieutenant governor of Minnesota,
clinched the victory in the state’s Democratic primary for US Senate,
beating out moderate US representative Angie Craig.
The AP called the race, with Flanagan leading with nearly 59% of the vote.

Demuth became speaker last year in an evenly divided House, becoming the first Black person in the role.
