Turns out that what hit flight #UA1093 was most likely a balloon from windbornesystems.com - this was brought up first in the thread x.com/vk5qi/status/19803865814 and now the company confirms that it's a very strong possibility: x.com/johndeanl/status/1980462. Today, we had a fire alarm going off at @… when I was just working on a local :git: repo.
This reminded me on the popular meme:

I always had some mixed feelings about it. Thus, I wrote down whats wrong with this meme on several levels (technical and social):

An evening discussing falling enrollment in #STEM courses at universities across Europe, especially traditional studies like chemistry, geology and meteorology. I wonder if young people are unaware of just how interesting #STEM careers to be? Or do they have the perception it's "too hard" compared to other subjects where easier grades may be had? Or is it simply they think they can have "better"* jobs in other fields?
