So when people start bitching about how ER docs are just cops, it is important to realize that we: 1. Don’t have immunity 2. Are legally responsible for people 3. Have a legal duty to act Cops can roll up to a scene, say fuck it, and peace out. They might get fired, maybe, but they won’t go to jail, won’t get sued, won’t be held liable for failing to protect people. Medical professionals can be held liable for a failure to act.
