NATO countries will launch a brand new operation in the Arctic this week,
following US claims that the island of Greenland is facing serious threats from China and Russia.
The Western military alliance is expected to launch "Arctic Sentry", three people with knowledge of the plans said,
in a move to deter foreign adversaries in the high north.
The decision, however, is widely interpreted as political rather than based on concrete security risks.
