Not entirely sure what my brain was up to, but it prompted Nano Banana to generate an “Overly Concerned Drafthorse,” and well, that’s that.

A cartoon-style illustration of an anxious, sweating brown horse standing inside a futuristic, sci-fi spaceship hangar or laboratory.

The horse has an anthropomorphic, worried facial expression with wide eyes and sweat drops flying from its head, highly reminiscent of the art style from *Bojack Horseman*. It is wearing a leather harness connected to metal chains and electronic devices strapped to its back. A bright purple electric arc shoots from a large machine in the background, striking o…
A cartoon-style illustration of an anthropomorphic brown draft horse looking highly stressed and overwhelmed at an office desk, drawn in a style reminiscent of *Bojack Horseman*.

The horse wears wire-rimmed glasses, a blue plaid button-down shirt, and a brown herringbone vest. It has wide, anxious eyes and visible sweat drops on its forehead, holding one hoof to its brow in a gesture of panic while clutching crumpled papers in its other hoof.

The cluttered wooden desk is filled with stack…

When we encounter something that promises enjoyment or discovery, the brain’s reward system becomes active.
One important pathway runs from the ventral tegmental area,
a dopamine-producing region in the midbrain involved in motivation,
to the nucleus accumbens, a structure that helps generate feelings of reward.
Dopamine is often described as a pleasure chemical, but that is too simple.
One of its key roles is helping the brain identify opportunities worth pursu…

#Zürich

A photograph of me from behind. I'm standing on the edge of the wall of the ruins of the Friesenberg castle. Below the wall are some trees and bushes and farther away Zurich and Lake Zurich are visible. I'm wearing white sneakers, a short blue skirt, a gray shirt. My hands are stretched the the side slightly backwards, my long chestnut brown curly hair is nicely falling along my upper back.

Humans evolved to pay close attention to danger,
but today that instinct is being overwhelmed by an endless supply of bad news from around the world.
Researchers say the answer isn’t to stop following current events
—it’s to build healthier habits around how, when, and where we get our news.

I hope Andy Burn 'em has some advisor who actually reads Environmental Research Letters. The review essay by Emily Grubert, summarizing a frustrating 25 years of research with no apparent effect on climate overheating, is blunt.
" For people and places that rely on fossil fuel production and face major transition challenges (Xenarios et al 2026), failing to be explicit about the degree to which transition must proceed, or the extent to which alternatives might actually be ava…

#mountainMonday ! Unfortunately not a recent photo but one that's quite a while ago. Before my wife had 2 knee issues. But maybe we can go there again soon.
As you can see, the landscape there is A BLAST! I totally love the area
#mountains

This image captures a breathtaking and rugged mountain landscape, evoking a sense of adventure and natural grandeur. A narrow, winding dirt trail cuts through the scene, leading the viewer's eye deeper into the majestic valley. The trail is flanked by rocky outcrops and patches of green vegetation, adding texture and contrast to the rugged terrain.
To the right of the trail, a steep, rocky cliff rises dramatically, its gray and brown hues showcasing the raw beauty of the mountain. The cliff's r…

Astronomers hypothesized that the Milky Way was flipped on its side following a direct hit from a wayward galaxy long before the solar system was born.
The cataclysmic collision is thought to have taken place about 10bn years ago
when the Milky Way was struck head-on by an incoming dwarf dubbed the Gaia Sausage.
The Milky Way tore the interloper to shreds and absorbed its stars,
but the chaos unleashed in the event probably flipped the entire disc of the Milky Way by m…

For Elizabeth Arif-Fear, there was no single moment when she realised she wanted to be Jewish.
“It was just a journey over time,” she says.
The 37-year-old interfaith activist was born Christian, then converted to Islam and was Muslim for 14 years, before realising that that faith was also not the right fit.
Eventually, she found the answer she had been searching for in Judaism.
“I feel I’ve finally found God without all the extras,” she says.
