The Trump administration has paused construction of border infrastructure in Big Bend National Park in Texas following public criticism of the controversial project.
Crews were filmed bulldozing pristine desert wilderness earlier this month, sparking rare bipartisan pushback.
The construction is part of a larger plan for the Big Bend region to build hundreds of miles of walls, vehicle barriers and other border infrastructure.

They were told to park outside.
Then their cars burst into flames.
An estimated 3.2 million vehicles nationwide currently have an outstanding “park outside” recall,
according to vehicle history provider Carfax,
which described the surging numbers as “concerning.”
The recalls also create new headaches for drivers, who suddenly wonder where it is safe to park their vehicles.

Data from German vehicle insurer HUK-COBURG (which holds a quarter of the market) shows that Germans have been choosing EVs almost twice as often since the latest oil price crisis in March: 12 per cent of car insurance policy switches in Q2 2026 were to an EV

This is encouraging but,
1) Land use emissions have fallen less than the rise in fossil fuel emissions: global emissions are still rising.
2) There is uncertainty in the data (other than for deforestation) which is greater than the decrease.
3) It's unclear to me what the overall flux is - the balance of sequestration Vs emissions. We know some forests have become net emitters.

Firefighters battling enormous wildfires in the United States say
the federal government is failing them at a time when supercharged blazes have made their jobs exponentially more dangerous.
While the US continues to grapple with a critical shortage of federal firefighters
– with especially large gaps in essential management positions
– the Trump administration has increased pressure on firefighting forces to rapidly and aggressively contain the flames.
