Following federal cuts to history-focused organizations, the president of the Canadian Historical Association, Colin Coates, sent this letter to Marc Miller, the Minister of Canadian Identity and Culture.
One thing might not be obvious: Coates's reference to Carney's recent Quebec City speech suggests Canadians' need for historical context right now. He doesn't agree with Carney's claims. In fact, most Canadian historians would dispute them.

Letter:

Dear Minister Miller,
I am writing to you in my capacity as president of the Canadian Historical Association | Société historique du Canada. The members of our association have been distressed to see the recent news about cutbacks in a number of federal government units that are very important to all Canadians who are interested in the history of our country: Library and Archives Canada, the Canadian Museum of History and the Canadian War Museum, Parks Canada, and Statistics Canad…
Letter:

While we cannot expect the federal government to address problems at the provincial level, in your role as Minister of Canadian Heritage, we hope that we can count on you to advocate on behalf of all Canadians to maintain and enhance the role of agencies that collect data and records and make them accessible to broad publics. We recognise that the country faces many current challenges, but we do not want short-sighted decisions to have long-lasting effects on the future study of the co…

Almost reached the top!
(A wonderfully wild path along the cliff edge and glorious evening light on the way to Teufelstättkopf, with a view of the Wetterstein massif and Zugspitze in the distance...)

High contrast black and white photo of a narrow path along the edge of a rocky cliff falling off vertically less than a meter away on the right. Steep slopes with dwarf mountain pines on the left handside, some of the trees in the foreground catching the evening sun. Layers of tall mountains in the distance (Zugspitze/Wetterstein in the far back)

To be sure, American capital isn’t abandoning the world outside entirely and Chinese investment continues to be greeted with suspicion in many countries.
There is still a very real gap in the current value, or stock, of all the investments that the US and China have out in the world. At the end of 2024, the total value of US companies’ long-term physical investments overseas was some $6.8 trillion, almost $4 trillion of which was in Europe according to official US data. annual investment in electricity generation rising from just over USD 500 billion over the last five years to more than USD 1 600 billion in 2030, before falling back as the cost of renewable energy technologies continues to decline. Annual nuclear investment rises too: it more than doubles by 2050 compared with current levels. Annual investment in fuel supply however drops from about USD 575 billion on average over the last half‐decade to USD 315 billion in 2030 and USD 110 billion in 2050. Th…

Former UK Labour leader Cornyn has issued a statement in solidarity with Amu Gib, who is accused of participating in the Palestine Action break-in of RAF Brize Norton airbase this summer.
The action,

While preparing #ArtemisII for flight, NASA engineers are reviewing data after a confidence test Feb. 12, in which operators partially filled the SLS (Space Launch System) core stage liquid hydrogen tank to assess newly replaced seals in an area used to fill the rocket with propellant: nasa.gov/blogs/missions/2026/0 - during the test, "teams encountered an issue with ground support equipment that reduced the flow of liquid hydrogen into the rocket. [...] Engineers will examine findings before setting a timeline for the next test, a second wet dress rehearsal this month. March remains the earliest potential launch window for Artemis II."
