“What we ultimately want, and what we believe we need, is a commons that is strong, resilient, growing, useful (to machines and to humans)—all the good things, frankly. But as our open infrastructures mature they become increasingly taken for granted, and the feeling that “this is for all of us” is replaced with “everyone is entitled to this”. While this sounds the same, it really isn’t. Because with entitlement comes misuse, the social contract breaks, reciprocation evaporates, and ultimately the magic weakens.”
Very glad to see that @… is working to address the deep challenges that have arisen at the intersection of the open movement and corporate AI.

Poster No 857: Plastic changes in the occipital regions during pitch perception associate with blindness onset age; "Specifically, the primary visual cortex remains engaged in pitch processing tasks following late blindness." doi.org/10.5281/zenodo.1564197

Screenshot of abstract.

Conclusions: In conclusion, while the plasticity of the cerebral cortex gradually declines with age, the visual cortices of late blind individuals (vision loss after four years old) continue to be recruited for pitch processing attributable to cross-modal reorganization. Specifically, the primary visual cortex remains engaged in pitch processing tasks following late blindness. However, compared to individuals who are either congenitally or early blind, late blind indivi…

Picked up a copy of Sen. McMorrow's new book at AADL tonight!
Thanks to everyone who had an N95 on. Had a feeling an Ann Arbor crowd would be good for that – it was very refreshing and I'm sure the library staff appreciated it as much as I did

NATO boss Rutte (fmr Dutch PM) sends app to Trump, who promptly publishes it.
"Wow, your bombing of Iran was great; it makes the world a safer place!"
Straight from The Hague, formerly known as the International City of Peace and Justice. Awkward.

Mr President, dear Donald,
Congratulations and thank you for your decisive action in Iran, that was truly extraordinary, and something no one else dared to do. It makes us all safer.
You are flying into another big success in The Hague this evening. It was not easy but we've got them all signed onto 5 percent!
Donald, you have driven us to a really, really important moment for America and Europe, and the world. You will achieve something NO American president in decades could get done.
Euro…
