Navigating 10-foot flames,
he arrived at the crashed

But the bulletproof door,
opened electronically by a hidden push button,
wouldn’t budge.

My wife spotted this on Facebook: it’s apparently posted somewhere along Kings Hwy near Bungendore. #Christmas

A road sign, showing a silhouette of a flying sleigh pulled by reindeer over what’s clearly a large pile of silhouetted poop, all inside a red caution triangle.

The caption below reads: “Warning—Beware of falling reindeer poo—6pm 24th Dec to 8am 25th Dec”

It's new Brita Filter Jug day.
I bought it to replace the previous one I had for a few years. It was a ridiculous design, that needed the whole lid to be removed to fill it 🤦‍♂️
The new one has a small flap that opens for filling. Much better.

An evening discussing falling enrollment in #STEM courses at universities across Europe, especially traditional studies like chemistry, geology and meteorology. I wonder if young people are unaware of just how interesting #STEM careers to be? Or do they have the perception it's "too hard" compared to other subjects where easier grades may be had? Or is it simply they think they can have "better"* jobs in other fields?

A black-and-white photo of a traditional Chinese gate with ornate carvings and layered roof tiles. The gate bears the characters “成贤街” (Chengxian Street), indicating a culturally significant location. The structure is symmetrical, with decorative beams and eaves typical of classical Chinese architecture. In front of the gate, a modern traffic sign shows a crossed-out car symbol, indicating that cars are prohibited. The juxtaposition of ancient design a…

A vintage black-and-white photo of a traditional East Asian building. The roof features cylindrical tiles in overlapping rows, typical of Chinese architecture. Below the roof, a large arched doorway and a circular window with intricate carvings are visible. Tree branches hang in the foreground, partially obscuring the roof. The image has visible grain and wear, suggesting it is archival. The scene is quiet and timeless, evoking cultural heritage and a…

A monochrome photo shows a man standing beside a stroller on a sidewalk. He holds a helmet and faces a wall with Chinese characters reading “消防通道 禁止停车” (Fire Apparatus access route. No parking). The wall is flanked by traditional architectural elements and trees, suggesting a historical urban setting. A cyclist passes by in the foreground, blurred in motion. The contrast between stillness and movement adds depth. The man’s posture is relaxed, and the …

My brain is frazzled from all of the conflict. I feel like C is attacking me and accepting none of the responsibility for our predicament. I’ve tried to apologise for my shortcomings (failing to consult her on a decision I made about therapy for my son) but she’s thrown it back in my face telling me I’ve made the same mistakes before, and that she finds it hard to trust me. She says I take decisions unilaterally and don’t value her advice despite clear evidence to the contrary.

Abstract: We present an in-depth analysis on how to build and train neural networks to estimate the spatial distribution of scattered radiation fields for radiation protection dosimetry in medical radiation fields, such as those found in Interventional Radiology and Cardiology. Therefore, we present three different synthetically generated datasets with increasing complexity for training, using a Monte-Carlo Simulation application based on Geant4. On those datasets, we evaluate convolutional and fully connected architectures of neural networks to demonstrate which design decisions work well for reconstructing the fluence and spectra distributions over the spatial domain of such radiation fields. All used datasets as well as our training pipeline are published as open source in separate repositories.
