A federal agent pointed a gun at a combat veteran’s face and said “
"bang, bang” and
“you’re dead, liberal”
during an immigration raid last week in Chicago,
the veteran is alleging in a new court filing.

„That’s three or four clicks just to see the error, and every one of them loads a new page with its own loading spinner, and none of them are fast. You are navigating a bureaucracy. You are filling out forms at the DMV of CI.“
What an apt comparison. The whole piece is *chef’s kiss*!

Wildfires are polluting the air far more than thought #environment
Alright, I'm now doing #platform #engineering for a serious job.
Feeling really good! ✨👩💻✨
TIL: DeHavilland Dash 8 aircraft have a much larger range than I thought. Just noticed an Air Canada Jazz flight from Vancouver to Winnipeg (JZA7110). That's about 1900km.
I look because turbo-props like the DH8 (aka Q400) are more fuel efficient and have lower CO2 emissions than jets. They also fly lower, generally around 20 - 25,000ft, so lessen the stratospheric pollution vs. 30-40,000ft.

Survivors of Super Typhoon Odette are making history—they're suing Shell in UK courts for its role in fueling the climate crisis.
Their argument: Shell's emissions made the devastating storm more likely and more severe. It's part of a growing movement to hold Big Oil accountable for climate damages, especially in vulnerable regions like the Philippines that face repeated destruction.
"We don't deserve this," they say—and they're fighting back.

China’s CO2 emissions have now been flat or falling for 18 months.
The rapid adoption of electric vehicles (EVs) saw CO2 emissions from transport fuel drop by 5% year-on-year, while there were also declines from cement and steel production.
While emissions from the power sector were flat year-on-year, a big rise in the chemical industry’s CO2 output offset reductions elsewhere.
Read "Revelation Space" by Alastair Reynolds, a story about some future space people investigating the demise of an extinct civilization.
Some of the people are software uploads or implants in other people's brains, or infectious biological agents and things.
The story is galactic in scale across time and space with good world building, a good tale weaving of elements together.
I liked the scene where the woman falling to her death in a lift-shaft remembered she was on a space-ship which only had gravity coz of engine thrust, so saved herself turning the engines off with a wrist controller.
Trouble is I came to it infrequently with long gaps and so struggled to keep track of what's going on quite a bit. Lots of different elements to keep track of.
My fault, should try and concentrate harder and remember things.
