Oxygen-containing yttrium hydride (YHO) and molybdenum trioxide (MoO$_3$) bilayer films (YHO/MoO$_3$) are produced using reactive magnetron sputtering, and their photochromic properties are investigated in relation to the thickness and density of the MoO$_3$ layer. The young $β$ Pictoris system has been monitored with high-resolution optical spectrographs for decades. These observations have revealed strongly variable absorption in the Ca II H\&K lines attributed to in-falling cometary bodies. The results of high-resolution Laplace deep-level transient spectroscopy (L-DLTS) measurements applied to the E1 and FeGa electron traps in dilute AlxGa1-xN films (x = 0.063), grown by metal-organic vapor phase epitaxy (MOVPE) on Ammono-GaN substrates, are presented.
