Just figured out I should turn off ClearType (subpixel rendering) on the high DPI monitor. Always loved that rendering hack, it is heroic, but is not necessary and was causing visible color fringing for me.

thesis: vs code is a game engine. consider:
- produced by a billion dollar company
- renders using opengl
- optimized like dogshit
- ships using a cursed runtime inheited down generations
- people hate it but use it anyway
- updates every few weeks, if something breaks the developer mostly just ignores you
- building anything involves gigabytes of artefacts
- there's ai in it for inexplicable reasons
