My wife runs linux, but she keeps a windows 10 VM around for exactly one thing: MS Office 2016. She needs it to ensure that grants from her lab sent to governments are formatted exactly right, something that libreoffice unfortunately still doesn't get right.
But man, even windows 10 has so much absolute garbage running in the background. It's probably time for a windows reinstall, or to see if wine will run it successfully (or something like linoffice:
Okay, here's the promised follow-up with more authors I respect who didn't make it onto this list. I won't do deep dives but I'll list at least one work per author:

Game designers/programmers:
(Upon review I was pretty remiss in skipping over a few of these people, some of whom I wasn't aware of but most of whom I just didn't remember when writing my short list. Subconscious misogyny in action. Short & Thorson probably would have squeezed out some of the YA authors I included, although I have no real regrets.)
- Junko Kawano ("Suikoden")
- Elizabeth LaPensée ("When Rivers Were Trails")
- Momo Pixel ("Hair Nah")
- Zoë Quinn ("Depression Quest"; narrative designer on "Solar Ash")
- Kellee Santiago ("Cloud"; "Flower")

- Kim Swift ("Portal")
- Maddy Thorson ("Celeste")
- Andi McClure @… ("Jumpman")
Note: I haven't included composers or artists here, but there's a deep bench.
Games journalists/steamers:
- Tanya DePass @… (#/INeedDiverseGames; twitch streams)
- Anita Sarkeesian (Feminist Frequency)
Game/play scholars:
- Mary Flanagan ("Critical Play")
- Tracy Fullerton ("Game Design Workshop")

- Magy Seif El Nasr ("Design patterns to guide player movement in 3D games")
- Kate Compton ("Causal Creators"; also "Spore")
P.S. upon consideration I've decided not to include any authors who are men in this coda.
There are definitely others who probably deserve to be here that I'm forgetting...

Help me, Fediverse. You're my only hope.
I need the BEST over the top #vaporwave background that runs for several minutes. It should take me down to the Parallax City where the far moves slow and the near moves quickly.
Maybe a movie. Or a demo. Should run on Linux. It's for a performance by the #coffeebots

I fear I am living in a crap 70s sitcom.
We are having some building work done next week so we've ordered a skip to be delivered today. Also today our next door neighbours are moving out.
Skip wagon arrives about 11-ish, knocks next door who tell him that no they haven't ordered a skip but they know that next door (i.e. us) is waiting for one. Skippy rings my doorbell, delivers the skip and drives off.
90 minutes later another skip wagon turns up, rings my doorbell and says "there's no room for your skip because you've already got one". Which obviously I do.
Meanwhile the new next door neighbours are starting to move in and say "is that our skip?"
Given they're both 8 yard skips you'd think they could just deliver ours next door but apparently not as it's a different skip company. So he spent 30 minutes shuffling skips between our driveway & next door.
