Fallout does the grotesque good, meaning: breaking norms, contrasting the depraved and disgusting with Doris-Day-like shiny happy people vibes. But it doesn't really do much with it. Characters feel kind of detached. Hm. I like it better than the game though because at least it doesn't force you into 1st person POV which I really don't like and Fallout 4 kind of did. It's the only one of those I played. Never finished.

The worst thing about social-media-driven online discourse is that every media product is reviewed as "a masterpiece" or "a disgusting pile of crap."
