More #MareOrientale in this new #ArtemisII #Moon image - https://www.flickr.com/photos/nasa2explore/55190158269/in/album-72177720307234654 - than in the first one with a long focal length presented. The lunar flyby webcast https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z-j1uxBmis0 will begin at 17:00 UTC today and the lunar observations run from 18:45 UTC to 1:20 UTC on 7 April - as explained in the press conference tonight we will mostly get images from the exterior cameras with astronaut commentary of what they see; real photographs like this one will be downloaded later during the day and the following ones.

Various social media sites down, or problematic, for large numbers of users?
X (Twitter), Discord, Bluesky, Reddit … hmm. Attached: four screenshots from <https://downforeveryoneorjustme.com/>.
Reddit was repeatedly down for me, then up around 19:58 in the UK (18:58 UTC), then up, now a…
The dust cloud born out of the demise of #Kreutz comet MAPS yesterday continues to evolve dramatically in https://ccor.nrl.navy.mil/ccor_realtime/last_image_MinBckgnd.png images, here from 0:45 and 2:30 UTC Sunday - most think it's a former dust tail the comet formed hours before perihelion, with particles being pushed away from the Sun by radiation pressure far enough that they survived their personal perihelia while the comet itself did not. At least for this coronagraph the surface brightness looks pretty high ...
Reminder that the historic Artemis II (human fly-by of the moon) mission launch is scheduled ~7.5h from now (at 18:24 EDT, which I think is UTC-4). Always subject to changes and could even scrub (this is the first opening of the launch window).
Looks like it's on, as of right now.
I'll probably watch Everyday Astronaut's coverage which is usually pretty good for these things:

At 18:15 UTC - 6 hours before the solar eclipse for Artemis II begins - the remains of #Kreutz comet MAPS are hard to see (near the edge of the field in the 2 o'clock position) even with a lot of contrast boosting of the https://ccor.nrl.navy.mil/ccor_realtime/last_image_MinBckgnd.png images.

Multi-Sensor Trajectory Reconstruction of the 24 April 2025 Alaska #Fireball and Implications for Planetary Defense: https://arxiv.org/abs/2603.22630 -> "On 24 April 2025 at 18:30:57 UTC, a bright daytime fireball over Southcentral Alaska was detected by 37 seismic stations, 16 single infrasound sensors, and four infrasound arrays, yielding 30 ballistic and multiple fragmentation arrivals. The unprecedented density of seismoacoustic coverage enabled detailed reconstruction of the event using acoustic signals, with fragmentation source locations further guiding the identification of Doppler weather radar signatures of a meteorite fall. Incorporation of a radar-derived terminal point yielded a final trajectory solution, which agreed closely with an independent optical trajectory solution from video analysis. [...] This uniquely well-recorded event demonstrates the capability of dense seismoacoustic networks to constrain bolide trajectories, energetics, and fragmentation, with radar and optical data providing critical confirmation and complementary perspectives."
