Fwiw, in design trends since the early 2000s buttons seem to have gone from glassy "pill" shapes (think Mac OS X "Aqua") over flat design shapes (Windows 8) to "no shape at all" (just text, e.g. iOS 7), back to flat design with very round corners (lots of websites these days) and lately (e.g. iOS 26) back to glassy round shapes.

Why do I want this stupid fucking "Commodore" phone? I never had or wanted a flip phone, and I don't long for the 1990s or 2000s (I remember them: they sucked).
I think I know why:
I wanted to be rid of my fartphone in 2018, and bought a Nokia KaiOS device. It wasn't all that useful because it lacked WhatsApp and Signal, making it unappealing to write a podcast client for it if I still had to carry around a second device to, you know, communicate with people.

This can be a problem because emojis are kind of open-ended (other than alphabets and many other symbol lists). And it's possible that some emojis turn out to be rarely used. I could imagine that eventually some platforms just stop supporting a certain emoji - but it's really useful to have an international encoding standard which is fully supported by most technology (as anyone who has programmed or written online text in the early 2000s can attest). That's why getting a new emoji approved has become so hard - we're basically creating a kind of tech debt for a potentially long time.
Funny story - you could try creating a post now with a Unicode character from an "empty" code point in the emoji range, in the hope that it will get assigned in a later round. I've seen such a post on the old Twitter, which later was filled with all kinds of random emojis, when you look at it in a few years. #linguistics #emojis #WorldEmojiDay

When giving a presentation about my experiences in Cuba, a man who had visited the Island in the 80s, 90s, and early 2000s broke down crying explaining how different things used to be. Honestly didn't know how to deal with such a thing during a talk, it was heart felt, honest; someone who refused to describe the situation as cold as I did because they knew what the numbers meant.

New Kodak Charmera's look nice; but just sayin' you could get a late 90s/2000s era Kodak DC camera (e.g. DC 210) which makes similar quality photos but with much more character for less.

Markets can stay wrong longer than you can stay liquid, so don't bet against them. But if you know the market is wrong, you don't have to bet with it either.

I’m not sure if they will be able to make this work, for two reasons:
1. “AI” craze inflating prices will lead to low demand
2. While Windows runs natively, practically no apps do and many will never get ported because it’s a tiny market.
This will lead to most consumers and businesses to choose a x86-64 computer so apps and games run smoothly.
The crux why Apple could pull this off is tight integration of hardware and software, an extremely good transparent emulation layer for older software, control over the development tools that most apps are made with, and most importantly discontinuation of their Intel-based machines.
Additionally, they’ve had the same underlying OS and apps that share code running for over a decade on that architecture already on their mobile platforms, and they had the experience from another architecture migration in the mid 2000s.
