@… years ago I read a "helpful hint" that boiled down to: form a sensible association between (a) the person's name and (b) the situation in which you met. A word-association-thing to ensure that you will you remember the name.
I tried it, once, at parties. At the second party, I clearly and correctly remembered the person's name:

People are terrified of The Evil Terminal but there's nothing like remembering a single command that will do everything for you (the exact way you want it) VS spending minutes opening windows and clicking on stuff (if you even remember where they are and if they haven't moved).

my link log mostly works as an external memory, provided i can remember the keywords in the headline
i edit headlines to stuff in extra keywords that make them easier to retrieve: implicit tags without the hash
but sometimes it can be a little frustrating
just now i was trying to remember something to do with numerical? analogies? sizes? units?
took me about 10 minutes to remember the other key word was “bio”
after which i was reminded the key words i had not-qu…

Anybody remember when every major operating system besides Windows decided to concede defeat to the hard drive companies that had been lying about disk capacity for years by officially redefining 1 kilobyte == 1000 bytes, overturning terms of art well-established in computing for decades? (Except for RAM, because it would be too hard and confusing to explain to people why their new computer has 17.17987 GB of RAM.)

I remember a time when at least folks in the West tried to pretend they were civilised and cared about things like human rights and democracy. Now even that pretense is gone. Now it’s “might makes right, motherfucker!” And “yeah we’re douchebags and barbarians, what’re you going to do about it?”
