A happy Japanese pun from
reddit.com/r/golang/comments/1
===
Fun fact from Japan! We have a saying "郷に入っては郷に従え" (gō ni itte wa gō ni shitagae) which is our version of "when in Rome, do as the Romans do." Here "郷" (gō) means "village" or "hometown" - equivalent to "Rome" in the English proverb.
The funny part - in Japanese, "郷" (gō) sounds exactly like "Go"! So Go programmers here often joke: "Goに入ってはGoに従え" (Go ni itte wa Go ni shitagae) or "When in Go-land, follow Go's ways." A perfect bilingual pun that just works!

Ended up using a probability game mechanic again today and thought I might explain it here in case other #GameDev folks might find it useful. The basic problem it solves is when you want a percentage probability to be influenced by both beneficial and detrimental stats/effects, and you want these to balance against each other without the system easily tipping too far in either direction. Think about crit chance for example, and how many games have either lopsided systems where it's easy to max out at 100% or really opaque systems to try to balance things somehow. The system I'm about to describe has a nice intuitive explanation, but also permits positive & negative modifiers to balance out naturally (though it may not work well for every situation).

The final presentation at the SEC 2025 - vvs.be/subsite/sec-2025/progra - was by Mariusz Krukar about the Impact of solar eclipses on twilight. He called the 1990 observations by Geyer et al. - opg.optica.org/ao/abstract.cfm (don't know of any OA version) - the best so far while in eeq.astro-geo-gis.com/2024-2/ he had predictions for 2024. The next SEC will probably be in 2029 - no location decided yet. 19/19

O.k. four more slides by Eduard Masana at the Leuven SEC about the 2026 Total #SolarEclipse in Spain, namely what the Comisión Nacional del Eclipse is preparing: see iaa.csic.es/page/comision-naci and eclipses.ign.es and eclipse-spain.es/index.php/en/ for relevant websites. And some Final Thoughts and Recommendations about the expected eclipse experience in Spain. 13/n
