Robby Duguay's Silent City, a remake of the Christmas carol Silent Night in the style of the SNES game SimCity.
Duguay's 3-volume collection, 12GB of Christmas, includes many excellent 8-bit and 16-bit pastiches like this.

"Code is, ultimately, characters on a screen, and software engineers do nothing but hammer that code into shapes that spark Joy and Money. The fear and dread comes from a culture where people feel bad that they can't work quickly enough in the terrible codebase, where they feel judged for slowing down to hammer the code into better shapes that sadly aren't on the Jira board, and where management looks down on people who practice craftsmanship."

The "going out of business" signs have gone up at our local Big Lots discount shop.
#BigLots #Retail #Ohio

An empty orange shopping cart with the words Big Lots sits in a parking lot in front of a shop. A sign above the wide sliding entrance doors reads "Big Lots Entrance." Between that sign and the sliding doors is a vinyl banner that reads "Closing" in huge letters. Two big signs are posted on the doors. One reads "store closing" and the other reads "Entire store up to 25% off." The pavement of the parking lot has numerous cracks.

turn of the century chinafakes are something else

A chinafake toy gun that resembles Harry Potter on a broomstick with an owl. One of his hands is pointing at something, and is very large and made out of translucent green plastic with an LED inside. The whole thing is very off-looking, has a weird paint job, and Harry's face is that of an eldritch horror. The whole toy is covered in minor damage from wear (scratches, paint worn down, etc) and small amounts of grime and dirt here and there, presumably from storage.
A slightly more zoomed-out image of the same toy.
The other side of the toy, which is identical albeit mirrored. It has speaker holes and a model number of "NO.918-20" molded into it.
A close up of the initial side of the toy, but focused more on the lower half and battery compartment this time.

It's gonna be a sad day if all the handmade, off-model, copyright-defying art on carnival rides ever gets replaced by boring generative AI images.
