The last resorts for unaffected forest in the word are constantly reduced. None of them is left in Europe. The last one was in Romania, but it disappeared by 2013.
The leading drivers of reduction changed from timber harvesting and agricultural expansion (2000 to 2013). Yet since 2020, fire has become the leading driver. Also the proportion of intact forest landscape reduction caused by mining, drilling and exploration has increased substantially.
