This is pretty interesting, some countries are "leapfrogging" landlines.

A series of six line graphs showing mobile and landline phone subscriptions per 100 people from 1960 to 2021 for the United States, United Kingdom, China, India, Ghana, and Nigeria.

In the 1990s:
- Mobile subscriptions began in all six countries, starting to rise significantly in the late 1990s.
- By 1995, landline subscriptions were at least 50 per 100 people in the US and UK, but remained much lower in China, India, Ghana, and Nigeria.

From 2000 to 2010:
