According to the TidBITS article “A Roundup of Vertical Tab Support in Mac Web Browsers” <tidbits.com/2023/06/05/a-round>, Safari supports vertical tabs since version 16.
I did not know it!
I don’t seem to be able to get the Safari vertical tabs to work though.
I can see the list of tabs in the Sidebar.
I also have the tabs displays horizontally at the top of the window (in both Separate or Compact mode).
I was expecting no tabs at the top when using vertical tabs. Is that not what you’d expect when thinking about vertical tabs?

We present radial velocities of the G8 subgiant star beta Aql obtained in 2022 and 2023 using SONG-Tenerife and SONG-Australia. We also analysed a sector of TESS photometry that overlapped with the 2022 SONG data. We processed the time series to assign weights and to remove bad data points. Fun fact, if Canada joined the EU it would probably hurt it from an emissions reduction perspective because Oil and Gas.

Weird how they don’t mention LNG as being a reason why Europe has been able to meet its goals. Almost like renewables are essentially the only way to decarbonize the industry, just like the scientists say it is.
