I have a JPC-12 vertical antenna. On the good side, it puts the coil 4' away from the base, reducing coil losses by not putting it at the point with the highest current. On the other hand, it's stainless steel with significant real resistance, so even that reduced current still heats it up substantially. Some of that heat could instead be radiated RF!
I am considering rewinding the coil with lacquered silver-coated copper wire for substantially-reduced real resistance, as KA7O…
