Finished "The Echo of Old Books" by Barbara Davis. I enjoyed the first 2/3rds of it, but soon any such joy succumbed to a growing annoyance with some of the characters, some facets of the plot, a central premise ultimately abandoned, and a sugary predictability that was so obvious I was sure that it would prove a decoy. It was not.
