Any computer touchers familiar with the origin story of UUIDs/GUIDs?
In particular I'm curious how we ended up with the weird format of 32 bits, 2x 16 bits, 8 bytes rather than the two obvious formats (uint32[4] or uint8[16]). And the C struct format doesn't align with the typical hex printing (8-4-4-4-12 hex digits)
My best guess is that it's somehow related to the version 1 GUID format where you'd have { MAC address, version nibble, timestamp} but neither the st…

Do Not Put Your Site Behind Cloudflare if You Don't Need To
At the time of writing 12:43 UTC on Tue 18 Nov, Cloudflare has taken many sites down. I'm trying to browse the web, but about half of the sites show an error.

At 3:24 UTC tonight the LVM3-M6 should launch the first Block-2 #BlueBird satellite in India: webcasts at youtube.com/watch?v=tNpY3wLE3nE and youtube.com/watch?v=vwdATsLffyU from ~2:55 UTC. Astronomers fear the new satellite series because of their humongous antenna surface though AST in ast-science.com/connecting-the claims they are mitigating the brightness - in any case numerous launches are planned: x.com/AST_SpaceMobile/status/2
