OK..news from the "involuntary admin" front.
Infos I had from my partners mother:
"I can do nothing on my laptop any more. There's always a message 'no permission' when I try X or Y. And it said deleting cookies may help so I tried. But something went wrong and I was afraid to continue"
What I saw when I checked the laptop:
- Firefox icon in task bar and desktop blank
- Chrome icon in task bar and desktop blank
- Virus scanner…

This message is intended for Canadian #Mastodon admins who are running public instances large and small. If you are an admin, please share with your counterparts. If you are a member of a Canadian instance, please send this to your admin.
A small group of us (Note: really, really small) are in early discussions on how to encourage our government - individual politicians & federal, provincial, and municipal departments - to move their social media presence to Mastodon. This would involve an awareness campaign targeting politicians, party HQs, and departments/agencies.
We are asking for input from admins to help us create a future state vision for this project, and provide us with advice or ideas on how to bring it to a reality. I will set up a web call within the next 3 weeks and hopefully you can participate. We are not asking you to contribute beyond input. Please DM me and I will add you to the invitees.

And #HappyNewYear. I have a suggestion for a #NewYearsResolution2026 that I hope you can participate in. At the very least, please boost the crap out of the idea, steal it and use it as your own or promote the hashtag at every opportunity.
During a random conversation with @crispius a few days ago, we sparked an idea on how to get people off of toxic tech bro social media and onto #Mastodon. What if all Mastodonians agree to convert at least one person into a Mastodon user in 2026. This could include supporting them to make them an active and loyal user. Help them find accounts to follow, finding their personal community, building relationships with followers, etc. It's a grassroots strategy for getting people to move to this platform.
We could use the hashtag #BringAFriendToMastodon to share ideas, strategies, or success. Perhaps ask your admin for help spreading the idea (shout out to @…). Maybe @… can assist in promoting this as well.
