I've played with a toy fluid sim implementation (eulerian) to see if I can make cool fiery explosions with it and ...nope. It seems that the assumption of incompressibility, subsonic velocities, unavoidable viscosity doom it to be just a fluid sim forever. The best I can do is a splotch of ink.
