I was involved in web development in the early days. (The 1990s!) It was fun, exciting, it was good. What ruined it was people who did not love the web getting involved. People who didn’t use the web like they loved it, people who didn’t understand it, people who cared more about money than the web.
The web got wrecked because we let too many assholes get involved & call the shots but it’s not too late. We can still take back the web for us. We can continue to build out the web we…

The Avi Lewis AMA on Reddit this afternoon was interesting. He didn't answer my question, and I'll eventually get over it, but he was swinging for the fences with his ideas. His responses would resonate I think with MastoCanucks as they pretty much call for the government to get more involved in providing real solutions. Including building 1M public homes, tackling U.S. ownership of our media, getting rid of FPTP with electoral reform, guaranteed income programs, publicly owned options for major business categories (banks, grocery, phones, etc). Those big ideas could wake up and excite voters while at the same time facing huge opposition from big businesses and wealthy Canadians who would face a new wealth tax.
I hope he wins the leadership. At the very least he'll push the Liberals to be bolder, and maybe even lead a minority government that could bring some of his ideas to fruition.

Yesterday I finished "The Other Side of Tomorrow" written by Tina Cho and illustrated by Deb JJ Lee. Lee's "In Limbo" was an excellent graphic memoir, and this similarly has wonderful art, although I didn't make the connection until checking the authors after reading to the end.
This book is a realistic fictional account of two childrens' escape from North Korea via China, Laos, and ultimately Thailand where they could declare themselves refugees at a US embassy and get sponsored to live in America. Along the way they're helped by various members of the Asian Underground Railroad. I'll avoid spoilers but yet definitely encounter difficulties along the way.
The ending definitely hits different now (while also accentuating my disgust with the current US regime). Like "Libertad" that I also finished recently, the "escape to the US at the end" plot line is going to become less prevalent going forward, although Libertad involved a good measure of complexity around that point.
I was a bit disappointed in one of the later plot points where a different and more-real-world-probable turn of events could have served as a better message for society, with the "lucky" outcome as written reinforcing regressive notions of family, and as an ex-Christian the Christian elements of the story made me feel a way. I'm an agnostic, not an atheist though, and can respect the idea that those willing to risk torture and death for their faith have every right to stand by it and take inspiration from it. Most (very valid) critiques of big western Church institutions just don't apply to underground churches in northern China who are helping people escape the horrors of deep fascism.
Overall a really good book.

If you’re wondering how you can help…
If you’re in MSP: talk to your neighbors, find the people who are doing organizing work, and get involved. Find something and show up for it. Info & resources here: monarcamn.org
If you’re elsewhere in the US: talk to your neighbors •now• about what’s happening, and get your support networks set up •before• this comes to where you live — unless of course it already has, in which case see above.
If you’re not in the US, spread the word about what’s happening here. Make the shame of ICE known internationally.

Kimi Onoda, Japan's new Minister of State for Economic Security, is a 43 year old half-Irish ex-game industry PR femcel with an extensive history of defending her exclusive attraction to anime boys on twitter

I don't think it's twisted at all.

I'm a woman who likes men, and I'm not interested in 3D men.

That's all.
I apologize for rambling on. I just couldn't stay silent... I really wish I had more allies within the party...

From here on, this is completely my personal opinion, but fundamentally, people who truly love 2D wouldn't touch 3D at all. I myself have absolutely no interest in 3D and consider it out of bounds. Maybe that kind of feeling is something only those involved can understand.
"Hurry up and get married," "Have kids" I've been told this by voters since my 20s, but even at 40, I still sigh every time these words are thrown at me. At what age will I finally be free of this?

In the 3D world, I'm married to my country, and besides, I've said my private life is 2D-exclusive, haven't I!! I'll say it over and over: I'm 2D-exclusive!!
I've been saying this for a while now, but I don't consider 3D (real-life) people as romantic prospects. I'm dead serious, not joking. For me, the very act of someone seeing the "possibility of marriage" in me is inherently uncomfortable (quoted from a reply)-it's the same as if you were to suggest to a gay person that they marry someone of the opposite sex... If you can understand it that way, that would help. This isn't about sexual harassment or anything like that; it's a deep-seated discomf…

The image captures an intimate moment between two characters in what seems to be a dimly lit, indoor setting with dark walls and minimal lighting that creates a moody, theatrical atmosphere.

The scene shows two actors in close proximity, engaged in what appears to be an intense emotional exchange. The person on the left has distinctive white/grey hair and facial h…

I donated a bit to Gary McCoy's campaign for District 8 supervisor in SF.
I'm hesitant to support merely "progressive" candidates since so many veer rightward after getting elected, like D8's current supe Mandelman, and recently D7 supe Melgar to a lesser degree.
But I really like Gary's platform, emphasizing non-police public safety programs; traffic calming as part of public safety; and pro-housing with emphasis on public investment, not just upzone an…

Real conspiracies tend to come out, but some of them take a while. Information on the Iran/Contra scandal broke out about 5 years after the conspiracy started. That would have taken several hundred people to carry out, so it was somewhat hard to hide. Even so, they largely got away with it.
The moon landing conspiracy theory would have taken thousands of people, so it would have come out more quickly. Since we have an example of a real secret program of a similar scale as what would be required to fake a moon landing (that is, the Manhattan project), we know that the fake moon landing conspiracy theory is not true. (There's also the literally tons of evidence in the form of rocks and other samples, and all kinds of other ways to debunk the claim.)
Could Kash Patel's FBI have been trying really hard to entrap people into carrying out terrorist attacks in order to justify #Trump's occupation of DC? Could they have helped a guy plan an attack then just failed to arrest him? There are reasonable scenarios that fall in between malice and incompetence while still indicating some level of false flag.
Could someone have just snapped and ambushed some guardsmen without any involvement from the FBI? Yeah, totally. The US is a country full of guns with a completely non-functional mental health system. Someone coming from a country that the US destroyed, twice, could have a lot of untreated trauma. Might they see the national guard as a threat (even if that wasn't totally true)? Yeah, they were deployed to threaten people (even when they were just picking up trash). The point was to incite this kind of response. It's completely reasonable to believe that the FBI would not need to be involved at all, that this would just be the stochastic response they were looking for.
So the point here is that everything is on the table, nothing is really known, nothing should be surprising, and no matter what it's Trump's fault. This is exactly the escalation he was looking for. If he didn't get it naturally, he would also have had ways of making it happen.
He will use this in exactly the same way as the Reichstag fire, to drive a wedge between liberals and radicals. Don't fall for it.
Edit:
There are plausible reasons to not believe the official narrative at all right now, or maybe ever. The official narrative is also plausible, but there are plausible reasons to disagree with the response even if the official story is true. It is unnecessary to resort to conspiracy thinking in order to account for what happened and to disagree with the response. But it is also understandable why someone might jump immediately to a conspiracy given the circumstances.

I never thought I’d be doing this at my age…
That’s what my friends Karen and Chris told me recently. She’s a retired teacher; he’s a retired firefighter. They are a Canadian couple from Alberta who, over the past few years, have travelled the world, spent time with their family, and helped over a thousand individuals and couples build an online business that removed financial anxiety from their lives.
How did they do this? They got involved in an online business a few years ago and helped others do the same. They had a mentor to guide them from day one. But on top of that they had access to and support of other experienced people on the team. They were able to take advantage of a huge library of training resources that showed them how to get started and keep going in an effective manner. And they had the flexibility to work on their new business based on their priorities and schedules.
The results speak for themselves.
If you’re wondering if it’s possible for you, message me to learn more.

Content warning: #yourParty #ukpol

So the temporary placeholder name "Your Party" is made permanent.
None of the options on the shortlist were good. Most of them just as grammatically inconvenient as the dumb placeholder name.
The people who decide on the short-list, who can be a member, whose votes counts and what the options are, have quite a lot of power.
Zara Sultana boycotted day one over who sets the rules and who can be involved. If Your Party have a governing body with power to override conference they end up like the Labour party and just are easily taken over and usurped by a cabal of thatcherite neoliberal capitalists.
They did allow the dual membership system and a wider governance, so Zara won on who gets to be a member and who gets to be in charge. Which is probably good.
Coz as the terrible name shows, if you put the idiots in charge you'll get idiocy not good collective decision making.
For now the membership appear to have won, and I hear are they are all very excited and fierce and canny and not likely to let the old guard just set up another dictatorship from the top.
They currently have half the membership count of the greens, less than a quarter that claimed by Reform. Lets hope they can get some attention towards something other than how billionaires think the country should be run and focus on the people.
Here's hoping they can inflate that number by draining the Labour party and Reform members who just want change really rather than actually liking anything said by Farage.
