Way back in the late 1980's my cat once brought one of these to our front door. (We live in Santa Cruz county along an ever-running creek - rather the natural habitat for garter snakes.)
(Our office was located next to a site that had hundreds if not thousands of common garter snakes - enough that a state herpetologist lept back upon encountering a mass-of-snakes scene right out of an Indiana Jones movie.)
