Got my config manager POC’d up at all levels now.
Single resource on the CLI
Idempotent shell scripts
Manifests
Globally distributed runner with patterns like rolling restarting deploys etc.
All with hierarchical data delivered via key-value store
The distributed model is using tech that. Is currently running on 7 figure node deployments.
Exciting stuff. Will make a video.
Next to make it a bit more robust etc

Crucial BX500 SSDs (still being manufactured in 2025) don't appear to support SMART self-tests. They support SMART attributes etc, but none of the testing functionality.
I'm quite surprised. I realise these are budget consumer drives but that is some aggressive market segmentation there.

The utopias of yesterday – GfZK Leipzig presents the history of Robotron...
(Robotron was East Germany's largest computer manufacturer and they also made the machine I first got to use on my way to becoming a "computer toucher"... Almost exactly 10 years ago, I wrote about those early experiences and the lessons learned already back then in this long read article here:
