Dozens of world leaders and national delegations will meet in Washington DC on Thursday for the inaugural meeting of Donald Trump’s Board of Peace,
-- as major European allies declined to join the group and criticised the organisation’s murky funding and political mandate.
The White House has indicated that the summit for his new ad hoc council at the renamed Donald J Trump Institute of Peace will heavily function as a fundraising round,
with Trump announcing on social medi…

Over the past year, tech industry lobby groups have used their lavish budgets to aggressively push for the deregulation of the EU’s digital rulebook.
The intensity of this policy battle is also reflected in the fact that Big Tech companies have on average more than one lobby meeting per day with EU Commission officials.
This lobbying offensive appears to be paying off.
Recently, a string of policy-makers have called for a pause of the Artificial Intelligence Act,

Leaks from an AI research meeting: a company wanted to integrate AI in their main product as their competitors already have this, and asked for advise how to accomplish this. Recommendation from the researchers: in your GUI, replace the string “automated“ with “AI assisted”.

Neanderthal DNA is largely missing from the human X chromosome.
“We found a pattern indicating a sex bias: gene flow occurred predominantly between Neanderthal males and anatomically modern human females,”
said Dr Alexander Platt, a senior research scientist at the University of Pennsylvania and first author of the research.
The ancestors of modern humans and the closest related species, the Neanderthals, diverged, forming two distinct groups, about 600,000 years ago.

One of my VR Lighthouses died last month. These things are gyroscopically spinning 24 hours a day for, what, a decade now? Nearly.
No wonder. Mostly the industry seems to be settling on using head-mounted cameras rather than sweeping infra-red beams and receptors on the head anyway.
It is true that lighthouses give accurate positioning, but means I can't easily take the headset next door, say. Or to a party.
So inside-out, as they call it, is fine for the headset now and mostly okay for the hand-controllers.
But it offers no solution at all for the foot-trackers and hip-tracker that I need for puppetting the characters in the #vr #slimeVR #trackers

Local leaders in Social Circle—a town that voted overwhelmingly for Donald Trump—have been begging for answers.
They have asked for engineering reports. They have asked for security plans.
Homeland Security has responded by dodging calls and skipping scheduled meetings with city officials.
They aren't even pretending to care about the communities they are overwhelming to build #industrial

Good Morning #Canada
The Assiniboine River is 1,070 km long and runs through the prairies of Western Canada in Saskatchewan and Manitoba. The #16 emtry on our #CanadaRivers countdown, the Assiniboine is a typical meandering river with a single main channel embanked within a flat, shallow valley in some places and a steep valley in others. It drains a reasonably sized watershed of 182,000 km2 but a weak flow averaging 45 m3/s means it has changed course numerous times over past centuries, following its modern course for approximately 700 years. Flood control dikes and dams have been added to the upper steeper sections of the Assiniboine to reduce damage during spring melt and runoff.
Where the Red & Assiniboine rivers meet, in the heart of Winnipeg, is a area known as The Forks. It has played a complex role in the history of the region, as a meeting place for Indigenous People for 6,000 years and later as the 1st colonial settlement in western Canada.
