extended hospital visiting times for Ramadan
Saw yesterday or the day before that one of the London trusts was doing this. Good to see it's happening in Nottingham too.

I had eye surgery yesterday, to clean out the filters in the drainage ducts of my eyes. I was (obviously) nervous about it. The experience was unpleasant but not terrible, and greatly helped by a surgeon with a great chair-side manner.
This morning my eyes feel not much worse than an average morning, and I have an only-slight headache. So (so far) this has been a much less bad experience than it might have been.
Many thanks to Scotland's NHS!

I'm hearing that there's spare capacity in the private health sector even as NHS patients are on waiting lists!
If this is true the solution is obvious: Nationalize the private health services and put them to work on NHS patients!

NHS, heart treatment waiting lists
"The number of patients with serious heart problems forced to wait more than 18 weeks for care has risen fivefold since Covid struck"
"Likely factors include “severe cardiac staff shortages” in the NHS, the ageing population and widening health inequalities"
And heart damage from covid, one might expect? But no mention of _that_ possibility!
Covid probably killed or disabled some of the heart experts as well.

Content warning: UKpol, budget

So Jeremy Rhyming-slang did go ahead with cutting off 2p from NI.
I really don't think that's going to have the effect on the polls that the Tories are hoping for.
Everyone up to and including the middle class is desperately worried about the NHS, and a lot of people think that NI money goes direct to the NHS (it doesn't, but they're very closely associated for many people). So people are going to think this NI cut makes the NHS even worse.

Also the Medicaid segment on this week's #LastWeekTonight is a pretty good warning about what the UK is looking at with the Tory (and now apparently Labour) plans for (semi-)privatising the NHS.

And it is not good.

"the biggest 6-month fall in NHS waiting lists in over 10 years" say the Tories. This is plain untrue, and the graphs are the clearest demonstration of how voting does actually matter. This stuff is killing us

A graph showing that the trend has been massively upwards since the Tories came to power, and a slightly bigger temporary fall in waiting lists in may 2020.
A graph showing waiting lists go up when the Tories are in power, and down when labour are.

GP practices shouldn't have to contract separately for providing services to the NHS, separate negotiations, separate terms and conditions, separate and additional costs on both sides.
All of the GP practices should be nationalised and brought into the NHS in all four countries, governance should be local, very local.

😡: There are too many people off sick. What can we do?
👿: We could give the NHS doctors the pay-restoration they've asked for so that they don't all quit?
😡: But how would that make our corporate sponsors more wealthy?
👿: Ah, good point. Perhaps we can give billions of pounds to Crapita and ask them to assess the sick?
😡: Brilliant! But they have no expertise on the issue and no prior knowledge of any of the patents.
👿: No problem, we'll just tell them to find half those assessed are lying malingerers, you don't need expertise to do that.
😡: Brilliant, call the press, I'll do an announcement.
