Green banana flour. This was made from Cavendish bananas, green but fully rounded out, sliced about 5mm thick and dried at 58C (dehydrator using solar power) for about 8 hours, then milled in my new (to me) op shop Vitamix. It's a lovely fine silky flour. It takes about 40 Cavs to make a kilo of flour, so well worth it. #permaculture

For breakfast this morning, I grated one of these tromboncino, mixed with chopped spring onion, lemon thyme, salt and pepper, an egg and a spoonful of flour, shaped into patties with wet hands and fried them in a little olive oil. Put a poached egg on top with some cherry tomatoes on the side. So good. #permaculture

Four pale green tromboncino zucchinis, yellow flowers still attached, hanging from a trellis. Deep blue sky in the background.

Can you see them? The spiderlings? Aren't they cute! Garden pest control sorted. #permaculture #foodgardening

Huntsman spider in a pot. White cotton candy egg sac. Lots of teeny tiny spiderlings running around.

I was cleaning up my desktop and I found this image. I had forgotten about it. It is a Brenna Quinlan image and comes from David Holmgren's 'Retrosuburbia'. I'm happy to see my position - towards the rational end of the rational/intuitive spectrum (I always think you need to thoroughly, skeptically question your own beliefs, lest you find wishful thinking or prejudices amongst them), and midway along the "leave nature do it's thing/use design to keep your elbows in&…

A diagram locating a number of the major permaculture writers along two spectrums. The horizontal axis goes from rational at one end (Sepp Holzer) to intuitive at the other (Alana Moore). The vertical axis goes from intensive and high yielding at the top (Steve Solomon) to natural and self maintaining at the bottom ( Fukuoka)

My front yard garden in stormy dusk light. There's only about 30 square metres (320 square feet) of bed space but it feeds us very well. #permaculture

A very varied mixture of garden vegies - kale and lettuce and carrots and leeks and onions and beans and broad beans and parsley among lots of others, under a mauve sky.

In the last week we've gone from peas every meal to beans every meal. Seasons turn. #permaculture #retrosuburbia #fromthegarden

Next nice harvest will be gramichama. A small, subtropical tree with fruit that tastes just like cherries. And such pretty fruit! #fromthegarden #permaculture #retrosuburbia

A white bowl filked with dark crimson, smooth glossy berries with green catlyces.
