Post fan/GPU upgrade, and some additional fan RPM tuning via IPMI: VM server is running a lot cooler, for the most part. CPU VRM temperatures during a big compile job are less than the *idle* temps previously.
But I'm now seeing NIC temperature and it's concerningly hot. I'm not sure why it wasn't showing up before so I have no idea how toasty it was.
I'm also seeing what appears to be poor / unstable network performance.

Phosphorus-nitrogen systematics of first-generation planetesimals constrain life-essential element delivery to Earth: #life, found in different ratios in asteroidal bodies related to iron meteorites than in younger asteroids.
I wish this weren't on xitter; calling out bad behavior on that platform feels ironic. But @… seems to me to be sanely connecting dots:

Using Gun Violence Archive data and news clips,
The Trace has identified 27 incidents in which immigration agents shot at people since Trump’s operations began last year.
We have found another 46 incidents in which agents held bystanders, protesters, or other people at gunpoint under questionable circumstances.
Eight people — including Pretti — were killed in these incidents.
Another 14 people were injured.
Zero days since 83 #Gentoo developers effectively lost push access over revoked PGP key signatures because of random #LDAP hiccup.
Yes, we have error handling. And yes, we have a safety check in case error handling didn't work and LDAP returned empty list of developers. Yet apparently that's not enough either, so now we also check if the diff between old and new lists isn't too large; you know, in case ldapsearch randomly returned a subset of developers and considered it a success.
RE: #Boycott or economic blackout, #GeneralStrike, and #TaxStrike are escalations. Get in the streets and stay there. This is like a bouncer putting someone's arm behind their back and moving them.
Sometimes people try to slip out of that and fight back. Imagine if a bouncer just let themself get pummeled because they weren't ready, even after the belligerent asshole telegraphed it. A lot of bouncers take martial arts, not because they use it as a first response but because they want to be ready for those edge cases.
Armed revolution is like a bouncer getting down to brawl and calling in their buddy with the zip ties and bear mace. It's not something anyone starts with, or anyone wants to escalate to, but some people can't take a hint and are incapable of doing what's best for everyone.
Always know your next step (even if you hope you don't have to take it).
Imagine if a bouncer was just like, "oh, I asked him nicely but he told me to fuck off. I guess the creep who's punching random people and pissing in the corner runs the bar now."
After a bunch of iterating and simulation and getting pulled away for other things, I'm finally happy with the backside-fed ARF6 connector launch on the LATENTRED switch engine board.
Simulated return loss of the simple naive version (vias in pads, no ground cutouts or optimization) was around -10 dB return loss starting at 15 GHz and rising to -8.8 at 30 and -6 at 35.
Adding a cutout to the first ground layer improved this significantly, better than -15 dB to 33.8 GHz.
The public has swung decidedly against data centers in a matter of months, and tech companies are freaking out about it.
According to a recent survey by Heatmap Pro,
71% of Americans would oppose a data center project built near their homes,
including 55% that would “strongly” oppose.
It’s a stark contrast from just nine months ago, when Heatmap first conducted the survey and found that
Americans were evenly split on the subject, with 43% saying they would suppor…
