For my #HamRadio tunable elevated radial project, I want to isolate them from the earth and the mast, and I'm not finding an isolating mount that goes into a normal ½" "light stand". So I've come up with this design to build. (Yay, I can't just buy it, so I have an excuse to spend some shop time!)

“When you hear her voice, you can’t unhear it,”
says the award-winning Tunisian director Kaouther Ben Hania,
whose new Oscar-shortlisted film,
"The Voice of Hind Rajab", incorporates recordings of Rajab’s emergency calls
to depict responders’ race-against-the-clock attempt to save her
— and the ultimate failure of the international community to prevent her violent death.
Ben Hania says the film, a hybrid of documentary and drama,
is an eff…

I suspect that most people do not recognize how terrible this proposal is.
It is a return to the patronage system of the 1860s where people were hired into and fired from government positions, not on merit, but on loyalty and patronage.
If you think the Federal bureaucracy is slow and sometimes indifferent now, just wait until those bureaucrats operate not out of concern for the country and its citizens but for their jobs and salaries.

Omg, patently wrong. To begin with, I am the one using the GTX 1650, and my video shows that it's working great even with DLSS, as opposed to the viewer with the AMD problem. And that parrotting nincompoop of an AI wants me to - what? - save time, give technical advice, make some small talk? What a big, smoking hot, pointless pile of b this technology turns out to be.
And I guess Google lets the same fucking stupid LM to determine how to recommend my video to other viewers? Great!<…

YouTube offering me to use AI suggested answers to viewers comment and sounding like a moron.

"A woman was watching from her porch. Someone ran up and addressed her: “Ma’am, we’re out here defending the neighborhood against ICE. We need barricade materials. Is there anything in your yard you wouldn’t mind parting with?” She nodded urgently and showed them to her backyard, offering a flower bed, an old couch, and a lawn chair. Three people helped to carry these out and add them to the barricades."

Sonnet 113 - CXIII
Since I left you, mine eye is in my mind;
And that which governs me to go about
Doth part his function and is partly blind,
Seems seeing, but effectually is out;
For it no form delivers to the heart
Of bird, of flower, or shape which it doth latch:
Of his quick objects hath the mind no part,
Nor his own vision holds what it doth catch;
For if it see the rud'st or gentlest sight,
The most sweet favour or deform…

The Los Angeles Metro Board
unanimously voted Thursday to proceed with developing a
14-mile-long subway under the Santa Monica Mountains.
It’s one of the first significant steps in what city and county leaders are describing as
the region's most consequential transit project -- and perhaps one of the most important in the country.
Metro staff said in a report to its board that it has secured funding through county tax measures for about 14% of the $24.2 bill…

Good Morning #Canada
The month of December will typical put a dent in your paycheck, or January if you're using your credit cards, so it's tough to save any money. Canadians rank 21st worldwide with regards to how much of our salary we put into a savings account. According to World Population Review, we put away approximately 7% of our paycheck for a #RainyDay, far behind South Korea at 35%. I'm retired and therefore not a saver at this point, but even during my most successful earnings period I can't imagine I would have been able to put away a third of my salary.
I suspect the savings percentage is driven by a small group of high wage earners as individual Canadian debt has increased. According to Equifax, total consumer debt in Canada reached $2.56 trillion at the end of 2024, a 4.6 per cent increase over 2023.

Went to quilt club today. Its amazing how a little bit of time being creative, with genuinely kind and nice people can really make you feel good. This quilt is being donated to a soup kitchen. Next month we are making lap quilts for hospice.

A quilt of different styles based on the theme of "spoons". In the center is a quote from Pete Seeger. "The world is like a see-saw out of balance. On one side is a box of big rocks, tilting it its way, and on the other side is a box, and a bunch of us with teaspoons, adding a little sand at a time. One day all our teaspoons will add up, and the whole thing will tip, and people will say 'How did it happen so fast?'"

It's What's Inside (2024) - Eight friends with somewhat messy relationships spend a night screwing around with mind swaps (or body swaps). It's cleverly constructed, and it does a lot to help you keep track of who's who, but I still got confused at a few points (mild face blindness doesn't help). It did all make sense on 2nd viewing.
Thrash pointed out that fursuiters can actually do this type of identity swap, but this movie does a few things that does need the mag…
