40 years ago this weekend, jerry garcia falls into a diabetic coma & nearly dies. in the hospital, his heart stops following an allergic reaction when doctors give him valium. the dead will cancel 30 dates through fall. he relearns to play guitar & is performing again by october.

Jerry Garcia, guitarist with the
Grateful Dead, has been hospital
ized.

His attorney, Chris Andrian, con- |
firmed that Garcia was in the hospi-
tal but had no further details, other
than to say, “Just tell everybody
who loves Jerry to pray for him.”

KFOG reported today that Gar-
cia was admitted to Marin General
Hospital with a high temperature.

The hospital would say only that
“a Jerome Garcia” had been admit-
ted…

Grateful Dead rock band, has been
hospitalized after slipping into a
diabetic coma that resulted from an
infection caused by an abcessed
tooth, a band spokesman said.

(Garcia, 43, was in Marin General
Hospital, about 20 miles north of San
Francisco, but hospital
spokeswoman Sandra Currie would

his condition.
