A pack of dogs being kept by a Southern California grandmother has killed her daughter and injured her grandson in an attack, authorities said.
Emily Panuco, 26, of Parker, Ariz., on Friday visited her mother’s home in Big River, a California town along the Colorado River, the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department said in a news release.
One of her mother’s dogs had recently had puppies, which were in a cardboard box near the front door, the release said.
When Panuco’s 5…

I visited a popular #OpenSource documentation site this morning, and the glare almost blinded me.
Folk, in this day and age, if you run a website, there is NO EXCUSE for not implementing `@media: prefers-color-scheme(dark)`
But, I thought, this is open source! I can submit a pull request to fix this!
Reader, there are ONE HUNDRED AND FORTY-FOUR distinct colours specified in th…

Let me be clear. If the state of Washington ever asked me the question:
Permanent DST or switch back and forth?
I would eagerly select "No more switching boneheads".
But I would also be emailing the state legislature asking why on earth they ended up with this boneheaded choice, when the obvious, correct, answer was right there all along: Just abolish DST.

Emails from a trove released by the Department of Justice on Friday,
show that as late as 2018,
Epstein was invited to or attended dinners alongside the likes of Elon Musk, Jeff Bezos, Google founders Larry Page and Sergey Brin, Twitter co-founder Evan Williams, Microsoft founder Bill Gates, and Google vice-president and later Yahoo CEO Marissa Mayer.
Most of the events were staged by the Edge network,
a creation of literary agent John Brockman,
which offered a …

The Funeral of Handwriting: What We Lose When the Hand Stops Moving
In 2010, the Common Core State Standards Initiative dropped cursive instruction from its recommended curriculum. The decision arrived without ceremony. No public debate, no period of mourning, no recognition that a cognitive practice stretching back to the Sumerian reed stylus was being retired from American education. Forty-one states adopted the standards. Cursive, along with its slower sibling…

When DHS, USCIS, and DOGE announced the overhaul of the SAVE program,
they explicitly linked the effort to a campaign to combat the “taint” of noncitizen voter fraud,
a long-standing claim tied to the lie that the 2020 presidential election was stolen.
By all appearances, the administration is poised to use the SAVE program to prop up these false claims,
and sympathetic local officials may deploy SAVE to concoct evidence.
This move poses serious risks to vo…
