Comparing name generator designs in rural panel studies: analyzing alter retention and change
We conducted a two-wave personal network study in a rural Romanian community, interviewing the same participants (n = 68) using two name generators. Wave 1 employed a fixed-choice generator (n = 25) focused on emotional closeness; Wave 2 used a free-choice generator based on frequent interaction. We compared tie characteristics and assessed retention across waves. Alters who were kin, co-residents, or emotionally close were more likely to be retained, regardless of generator type. My least favorite work interactions are with customers’ 3rd party “rockstar” consultants. I never know how to respond to certain sorts of queries. Ones where I could answer the question as asked but it really implies a deeper misunderstanding. I feel like I want to write him a treatise on VPNs: what they are and how they work. And Cc his boss (who shares his surname…) to communicate the depth of the problem.

Convergence Analysis of An Alternating Nonlinear GMRES on Linear Systems
In this work, we develop an alternating nonlinear Generalized Minimum Residual (NGMRES) algorithm with depth $m$ and periodicity $p$, denoted by aNGMRES($m,p$), applied to linear systems. We provide a theoretical analysis to quantify by how much aNGMRES($m$) can improve the convergence speed of the underlying fixed-point iteration for diagonalizable and symmetric positive definite cases.
