sonify: Data Sonification - Turning Data into Sound
Sonification (or audification) is the process of representing data by sounds in the audible range. This package provides the R function sonify() that transforms univariate data, sampled at regular or irregular intervals, into a continuous sound with time-varying frequency. The ups and downs in frequency represent the ups and downs in the data. Sonify provides a substitute for R's plot function to simplify data analysis for the visually impaired.

While all things are subject to becoming, sound plays a special role in making time audible. It arguably manifests the elemental flux that is reality more fully and more palpably than any other phenomenon, and reveals time in all its heterogeneous becoming. The art of sound bears witness to and is the art of unleashing, cutting, and shaping this flow - temporal or nothing at all - forever manifesting the passage, the relentless becoming-other that is time.

I still love how something as totally basic as slowing down sound can reveal textures, harmonics, & microstructures that would otherwise be missed. A fleeting impact unfolds into something spatial, musical, & emotionally resonant. High overtones drop into the audible range, transients dissolve into evolving timbres, & the familiar becomes beautifully uncanny. In slowing sound, we don’t just decelerate it; we uncover its inner architecture - its grain, its buried melodies.
