Just heard a real good use case for “AI” on the Beeb.
They are working on dosing Tasmanian Devils with vaccine in bait traps but they had too many other critters hitting the bait, so they used AI to create a facial recognition system that can recognize a Devil and only then dispense a bait.

Solche schwachsinnige Click-Bait-Werbung habe ich noch nie verstanden. Vielleicht mögt ihr helfen?

Die neue Tech Won't Save Us episode ist @… Bait:

*Corporate stupidity entry No. 120023:*
The intranet sends out eMail notifications for new articles. The eMail contains just a teaser text but a huge meaningless header picture. You have to click and authenticate to read the full content. Like it's a click-bait platform that lives off the advertising and data tracking and not the corporate Intranet.
With at least one powerful acceleratorist ai corporation looking to fund/partner with open source live coding projects, I wonder if anyone will take the bait
Kyle Tharp, a progressive writer and researcher writes the "Chaotic Era",
a newsletter about politics, media and online influence.
Tharp launched the Chaotic Era in January, just days before Trump’s second inauguration.
Over the past year, he has tracked the surge in liberal media projects, mapped the rise of
left-leaning creators on platforms like YouTube and
analyzed the narratives that managed to break through the digital noise
But don’t take my word for it! The CEO of AWS himself said “firing junior workers because AI can do their jobs is ‘the dumbest thing I've ever heard.’”
Now that •same• company is laying of 8.5% — 8.5%!! — of their core workforce because they’re going to (future tense!?!) “reduce bureaucracy, increase AI use?”
Nope. I call BS. That’s just investor bait.
They’re in hot water and they know it.

💸 “Earn €1,000 a week. 100% safe. Limited time only!”
It looks tempting. Everyone else seems to be doing it. And the inner voice says: what if it’s real?
That’s exactly how cyber criminals exploit social engineering tactics like curiosity, greed, and FOMO to get us to fall for the bait.
When something sounds too good to be true, pause & breathe. Try box breathing (4–4–4–4) to reset before you click.

Just to be clear: this is a publicity stunt.
If there is a working design for a nuclear weapon on the internet (heaven forbid), then LLMs will plagiarize it.
If there isn’t, they’re not going to come up with one.
This is just cheap journalist bait. Every fantastical headline-grabbing “OMG our imitation machine is too dangerous for humanity!!!! (attn: investors)” press release like this is a play for headlines.
New assignment idea: teachers & professors feel free to steal:
It’s a literature review, but it’s submitted as a video essay (we all know most of them use the same boring structure anyway) and/or series of short form videos that must be filmed in a car. It’s called Reference Core, and you must bill it as nostalgia bait or capturing the vibe of a bygone era where people care about truth and giving credit
