Has anybody written about the near-ubiquitous online trend of bowdlerizing text, either to avoid being penalized by the algorithm (real or imagined) or to avoid content being searchable by others? We have people who communicate about "s*x" instead of "sex" and... that's probably a very bad thing.

If it really is true that quantum algorithms exist for any hard problems, this would be really cool in the sense that we’d have to go through our own Butlerian Jihad. We’d still have hashing, encryption and signatures which is nice, but I wonder how we’d make do without key exchange, the same way they had to make do with mentats.

Recent talk of “bowdlerizing” (a new word to me) text to avoid upsetting the algorithm (e.g. saying “unalived” or “s*x” on TikTok) reminds me of an old story where this kind of thing made the situation *WAY* worse.
