Content warning: AI Bubble? Projection graph.

So everyone's wondering if there's a financial crisis coming from the popping of the dotcom bubble.
Here's a little chart of those events, projected as though repeated from last week's stock market top.
You'd be looking at 25 to 50 percent drop over a year or three, taking S&P index down to four to five thousand or so over 2026, since that's what they were.
I think it's at least 30% likely to play out roughly like that, and am positioned such that I'm happy either way.

it's weird enough coming across old allmusic reviews by experimental banjo weirdo eugene chadbourne, but somehow weirder still to discover that he loved... "heavy turbulence" by merl saunders. allmusic.com/album/heavy-turbu

Described by the U.S. Air Force (USAF) as “a highly survivable command, control and communications center,” the Los Angeles Times noted that the Thursday landing by the aircraft—a militarized version of the Boeing 747—may have been its first-ever landing at LAX.
The aircraft was carrying Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth to Southern California as part of a nationwide “Arsenal of Freedom” tour,
which the administration has described as a
“call to action to revitalize America…

Calibrating and testing my shiny new PCIe card ThunderScope prototype.
It's soooo smooth. I'll never get tired of having many-megapoint waveforms refreshing at a steady 60 FPS.

MeshCore is opensource
The foundation of MeshCore is developed primarily by a single developer who is incredibly hardworking, dedicated and idealistic about keeping everything he does fully open. The firmware and protocol specification are completely open, allowing anyone to create a client app or perform security audits on the device firmware implementation. Just hop over to the meshcore-dev github repo and have a look. There are also open source command line, python and javascript cl…

Part of the answer is that the district has given all students the option to stay home and do remote learning for the next month. Good. I mean, that really sucks for the families doing it, it sucks that any families are boxed into that corner — but good for the district coming up with that option.
That doesn’t mean that school is safe, however — not even for families who aren’t being targeted by ICE.

I'm a chemist. As a grad student I was a TA and a tutor. I taught college chemistry classes.
That's teaching a subject, not communicating about a technical issue (yes, these really are different skills)
And climate change advocacy has highlighted how difficult communicating is.
I wish this proposal had been enacted when I was a student.

Please — and I can't believe I have to say this — please do not lick your employees.

Margin note in red: "please do _not_ lick your employees"

How then can you be sure you are being truly heard? What techniques can you employ? Is it enough to have your subordinate paraphrase your words? I don't think so. What you must do is employ all of your sensory capabilities. To make sure you're being heard, you should watch the person you are talking to. Remember, the more complex the issue, the more prone communication is to being lost. Does your subordinate give appropriate responses t…
