It felt a bit weird to read a #book set in Russia these days, but this one includes a brief history of Russian colonization of their far east (think: Vladivostok) and of a region even most Russians know next to nothing about — so it’s good context to what’s happening right now. Also: big cats.

meine lieblingsstelle: das "book of monsters". 🙃

It was a book of classic, simple design, like a flattened salmon, 800 pages long, very clean, very sleek. There was just one remarkable thing about it.
"It's so… black!" said Ford Prefect. "You can hardly make out its shape... light just seems to fall into it!"
The blackness of its title was so extreme that it was almost impossible to tell how close you were standing to it.
"Your eyes just slide off it…" said Ford in wonder.

A thin black book with an orange spine. In black type at the top right of the book, only visible because of the angle the light is reflecting off it, is the text "Marcin Wichary / Shift Happens / Extras".
A thick book with an orange spine and a black-and-white picture of a woman with arcs of light coming from her fingers as she types on a keyboard. In black varnished type at the top right of the front cover, only visible because of the angle the light is reflecting off it, is the text "Marcin Wichary / Shift Happens / Volume One". Similarly, on the orange spine are barely-visible glyphs that reflect the light.
A thick book with an orange spine and a black-and-white picture of a man typing on a keyboard with a screen displaying a graph to his left. The volume is at a slightly different angle from the previous image, showing how much the light angle affects the varnish. Barely visible black type at the top right of the front cover reads "Marcin Wichary / Shift Happens / Volume Two". Similarly, the glyphs on the orange spine are almost invisible.

"The market caters to everyone from book lovers [...] to book haters (Book Club for Masochists)"
From the chapter Podcasts, Audiobooks and Podiobooks by Matthew Rubery in The Routledge Companion to Literary Media

Literary podcasts go beyond radio programmes in covering specialised topics that have been passed over historically by commercial broadcasters aiming for maximal reach. Narrowcasting, by contrast, makes it possible to connect with other readers who share simi- larly niche tastes. Podcasts might be devoted to specific titles (Our Struggle), genres (Hey YA), national traditions (Can't Lif) or media formats (Ink to Film). Unsurprisingly, there are even podcasts about audiobooks (AudioShelf). The m…
