I'm sure that LLMs are partly to blame, but there's always been a tendency for language to follow fads, and I'll be relieved when these fads burn out.

When I was growing up in BLR, we would periodically have riots, during which people would burn city (KSRTC) buses. This was odd because the people rioting were the ones who typically rode buses. Didn't imagine I'd see a roughly equivalent scene in Paris (image (c) NYT).
