Idea: map of conferences
Some people track conferences they want to attend in calendars.
What if you could also explore a map to find interesting events nearby?
Markers would have a link, an icon and a label.
The link could point to a calendar entry in turn.
I bet that already exists somehow, but I don't see it much.
E.g. the Rust website could have that for all Rust conferences.
Or CCC for all the hacking community events in Germany.

The calendar service I use (Infomaniak's kSuite) started complaining that some calendars I import as ICS URLs (Google calendars of relatives and associations) were "too big".
It refuses to synchronize calendars that contain more than 25,000 events.
So I created a small proxy, to filter the oldest events, and now my calendar and I are happy.
For any calendar https://original-calendar/file.ics, I now give it:

> Judge Carolyn Kuhl [...] ordered anyone in the courtroom wearing AI glasses to immediately remove them, noting that any use of facial recognition technology to identify the jurors was banned.
If it was Google or Microsoft on trial they could also, in theory, identify jurors via email and calendars?

Twenty-four. There are now 24 advents. All of you wiseacres suggesting I was one calendar away from an advent of advents can stuff it.

Image 1 — Alt Text (English)
A black‑and‑white street photograph featuring a convex traffic mirror mounted on a pole. Above the mirror is a worn traffic sign. Reflected in the mirror is a traditional building with ornate roof details, several pedestrians, and another pole. Tree branches and part of a tiled roof frame the upper portion of the image. The scene blends old architectural elements with modern street infrastructure.

Image 3 — Alt Text (English)
A black‑and‑white street scene showing two people walking past a wall covered in dark spray‑paint marks and smudges. One person holds a drink with a straw. The wall behind them is rough and weathered, with a small hole and a wire protruding from it. The overall atmosphere is gritty and urban, capturing a candid moment of daily life.

Image 2 — Alt Text (English)
A black‑and‑white photograph of a narrow alley entrance lined with brick walls. Multiple birdcages hang overhead, some containing birds, along with gourds and tangled wires. A man sits on the left, leaning on a motorcycle while looking at his phone. Calendars and posters cover the wall behind him. On the right, a small table holds jars, and bags labeled “cat litter” sit nearby. The alleyway behind is dark and recedes into shadow.

Image 4 — Alt Text (English)
A black‑and‑white photograph of a crowded hardware store entrance filled with plumbing supplies. Pipes, hoses, boxes, and various fittings are stacked densely. Two people inside appear to be talking or making a transaction. Chinese signage above the entrance advertises plumbing and hardware products, and the address “Andingmen Inner Street No. 242” is visible. The scene captures the busy, cluttered character of a small urban shop.

I love this cartoon. In our house someone trying to open a door the wrong way will get a chorus of 'Midvale School for the Gifted!' and I even say it to myself if I get a door wrong in a public place. Hours of fun.

Ooooh, you can easily full-share calendars of a #radicale instance between accounts by just symlinking them into other users' directories. Everyone then 'owns' that calendar and can do anything. Paired with the #git hook, this then gives you a very fine-grained log of who changed what and when.…

There is lots of good writing in this post about the needs of different types of groups.

I’m about to finally get my act together and move my little-used Google Workspace account elsewhere. Is there anyone who would recommend something other than Protonmail for mail? I have file storage covered and don’t need calendars. I want to use a custom domain and a way to use IMAP clients is just about a must. #askfedi
