Back of the envelope calculation was that it would take about a 1/4 hectare of spekboom to offset the carbon emissions of my 2010 Honda Jazz.
Given that it grows in fairly crummy soil, and really doesn't need a lot of care, again back of the envelope, the cost came to a few thousand rand per month. A lot of money, but not crazy, out of reach expensive.
