I don’t think Chris understands that native plants on San Bruno Mountain are adapted to frequent fires, and fire actually gives natives a leg up on invasives here.
Maybe not if the fire is too big due to a legacy of fire suppression and existing buildup of invasives, but why would that be the case in the novel’s utopian future?

One of those notes is that China may well be doing the modern equivalent of Charles De Gaulle buying American, but this time it's releasing open models.
Another note is that people can be both evil and incompetent, and that the systems of control that have been built over the last several thousand years have evolved to be extremely resilient.
I think there's also a tendency to ignore emergent intelligence, or at least to assume that it must not be as smart as individuals. But the emergent intelligence of the capitalist system should not be underestimated. Even when run by the least many of the least competent people in history, the system can be quite adaptive when it comes down to self-preservation.
The point is not to try to out think it, because that's actually impossible. The point is to design systems that can think faster.

I've read the Sprawl Trilogy several times and watched the Blade Runner movies several times too. And I love them.
