The CKM angle $γ$ is important for testing the unitarity of the CKM matrix and searching for new physics. $γ$ can be extracted by the interference between $b\to u$ and $b\to c$ in the B factory such as LHCb and Belle-II. Determining $γ$ also needs strong parameter information from the charm factory, such as the BESIII experiment. With quantum-correlated data samples collected at BESIII, the $γ$ uncertainties from the charm sector can be highly suppressed.

Recent data for the masses of $D$ and $D^*$ mesons determined using methods of lattice QCD for several values of the charm quark mass different from its physical mass are analysed in Heavy Quark Effective Theory. Nonperturbative parameters are extracted that arise at order ${\cal O}(1/m_c)$ in the heavy-quark mass expansion of a heavy-light meson mass. Elastic $S-$wave scattering of a charm meson with a light pseudoscalar meson in $J^P =0^+$ is investigated in the flavour $\bar{\mathbf{3}}$, $\mathbf{6}$ and $\overline{\mathbf{15}}$ sectors at the $SU(3)_f$ flavour point using lattice QCD, working on three volumes with $m_π \approx 700$ MeV.
