The chat room itself can be a web page, a XMPP room,
a Matrix room,
an IRC channel, ...
The chat itself does not necessarily publish messages using ActivityPub.

@… I honestly gave matrix a try (self hosting) but this is ridiculous, I’m unable to enter an unencrypted chat room. This is now before and after the cloudflare downtime
